Courses I teach at Broward
CGS1060C: Computer and Internet Literacy

CGS1510C: Electronic Spreadsheets; Introduction to Excel

Why do I need to take this course?

Let’s get the obvious answer out of the way “I need it to graduate”. OK, so why do I need to understand Electronic Spreadsheets, particularly Microsoft Excel? The answer is you don’t! However, if you want to impress your boss by going above and beyond when asked to complete a task that involves the manipulation and interpretation of data, then knowing how to use Excel is mandatory. Thinking that Excel is nothing more than a software analog of a calculator is like saying Cloud computing is nothing more than a Server located in a remote place. One can practically run a business using nothing but Excel, it’s that powerful. I dare you to take the course and not come away in amazement with what you have learned. And this is just the basics! To prove my point I used nothing but Excel to create Unit Reviews and a Grading Calculator for the students to use. By using these two tools you will see the real-life uses of Excel.

ISM3013C: Introduction to Information Systems Management

Why should I take this course?

Let’s get the obvious answer out of the way “I need it to graduate”. OK, so why do I need to understand Information Systems Management? Because Information Technology (the hardware that makes up the technology) is all around us. It’s as if you are swimming in a lake full of technology. You encounter technology as soon as you wake up and put the weather channel on, or check your phone for email or messages, and of course whenever you search the Internet. You cannot escape the influence that all of this technology has on your life, for better or worse! If something has so much influence on you would you not want to have a better understanding of it? Of course, you would. This course provides you with that understanding, but more importantly, it shows you how to manage all of that technology. You will understand the “Why”, the “What”, and most importantly the “How” when it comes to Managing Information Systems. As an added benefit you will learn how to create a well-researched and formatted Research Paper using the built-in REFERENCES feature of Microsoft Word. I have little doubt that you will learn from and enjoy completing this course.
