Due to this lack of variety and quantity of plant-based foods in their diet, Americans are deficient in phytochemicals found in whole foods that we now know decrease the risk of heart disease and cancer. 10. When people switch to whole foods rich in fiber, antioxidants and phytochemicals, they will really begin to notice a difference in their health. 11. International data has shown a 50% reduction in cancer incidence when a daily diet consists of at least seven servings of plant-based foods. 12. To promote health, Americans need to eat more plant-based foods.
